Emotional Abuse

Emotional abuse, also referred to as psychological abuse or mental abuse, is non-physical abuse which cause pain and suffering to an elder. This can include verbal abuse, embarrassment, threats, yelling, isolation, humiliation and other practices which are meant to belittle or cause emotional harm.

Emotional abuse can be just as damaging as physical abuse, causing an elder to become withdrawn, depressed and apathetic.

Elder emotional abuse in nursing homes throughout the United States still occurs with startling regularity. It is important that if you suspect that emotional abuse is occurring, to contact a lawyer to see what legal action can be taken to remedy this situation.
