Malnutrition can come about from elder neglect in nursing homes. Malnutrition can lead to serious illness and even death. As an elder individual may already have trouble absorbing nutrients properly, and may have mechanical difficulty eating or drinking, nursing homes have an obligation to help ensure that nutritional needs are met.
Malnutrition is caused by an inadequate diet, wherein the body does not intake enough food, water and nutrients in order to function properly. Some signs to look for, in malnutrition, include: lack of energy, fainting, dizziness, weight loss and sleepiness.
